  2. Read two primary source documents
  3. Summarize the new immigrant experience
Session 2

Activity 25 minutes: Enrichment 4.2 Urban Problems/ San Francisco Earthquake 1906/ Social Darwinism v. Social Gospel 
Lecture 20 minutes: Gilded Age
Video 15 minutes: Gilded Age
  1. Where does the Gilded Age get its name?
  2. How do people view the American political system during this time?
  3. What is a Political Machine? What is Tammany Hall? Who is William Boss Tweed?
  4. What good did political machines do?
  5. What did political machines expect in return and how did they commit fraud?
  6. Did Americans trust government during this time?
Session 3 
Critical Thinking 15 minutes:
  1. What role did Child-Labor laws play in the increase in attendance and graduation rates?
  2. How do the goals of Western nations in 1900s compare with those goals today?
  3. Cause and Effect chart with following causes:
    1. Shorter Work hours
    2. increased attendance at athletic games.
    3. building of amusement parks
    4. more free time
    5. better transportation
    6. more populated cities.
